Dear Piranhas,

My name is Katie Stamm and I am one of your Head Coaches for this 2010 season. Tracy Craemer and I will be partnering up this season as co-Head Coaches. I swam as a Poolesville Piranha myself for 10 years. I just finished my sophomore year in the Athletic Training program at Salisbury University. I swam for Salisbury the past two years and have enjoyed the experience while learning a lot. In high school I swam on the Falcon’s team and on Joe Flaherty’s Dolphins for all four years. During this time, I coached lessons, clinic, and team at JFD. I started coaching for the Poolesville Piranhas as a pre-team coach in 2003 and have been coaching ever since. I am looking forward to another great season!

Many of you know Tracy Craemer as the voice of the Piranhas, but she is stepping down from the announcer's chair to get an even closer view of the pool! She will be returning to coaching this year and we are very fortunate to have her join the team! She swam MCSL for 13 years and taught lessons for approximately 15 years. She is not new to coaching for MCSL. She coached Potomac Swim and Tennis Club for 7 years. She is a certified US Swim Coach who has coached RMSC for the last two winters. She is a Montgomery County teacher who loves working with kids and has three active Piranhas of her own. We are so excited to work together this year to make this the best Piranha summer ever!

We have three assistant coaches that you will be seeing on deck. Elizabeth Pepper will be bringing her expertise back again this year. She swims for Walter Johnson HS and RMSC. Tyler Mumford has been seen coaching at the Sunday clinics at Germantown. He swims for the Falcons and RMSC. Kevin Kasner, who has volunteered with the Piranha 8&Us for many years and coaches all levels of JFD, will be joining us this year. All of these talented coaches will also be swimming this summer,
leading our team in both the pool and on deck.

This season PST will again be competing in the ‘D’ Division of MCSL for the ‘A’ meets. We should be very competitive in this division which will make for some great swim meets. On Wednesday nights we will compete in ‘B’ meets against nearby pools. There are two types of meets, however, there is not ‘A’ team and ‘B’ team, since swimmers can swim in one meet one week and the other meet the next week, or even both in a given week. The Poolesville Piranhas compete as one strong team!

Just as in the past, the same rules will apply in and out of the pool to keep our practices and meets running smoothly.

Swimmers:

  1. 1. Have fun! Summer leagues are fun because we have swimmers of all ages all working together. Help your teammates, younger and older, and cheer them on at every opportunity, both during meets and at practices.

  2. Come to practice on time and work hard everyday. Please be on deck 10-15 minutes before practice so we have time to stretch and get ready to be in the pool on time.

Parents:

  1. Please do not come onto the deck during practice, or into the team area at meets. Younger and older siblings should not be on deck unless it’s their practice time. These rules are in place to allow each swimmer to receive the attention they deserve during their practice time. The coaches will be available by phone, e-mail, or briefly between practices.

  2. Volunteer, volunteer, volunteer!! Swim meets can not take place without you! There are so many places to volunteer; everyone can find a position that works for you. Whether you work in the evenings or have young kids, we can help you find a way to volunteer. No matter where you choose to volunteer, you will not miss any of your children’s events. Some positions give you a great view of the pool!

All the coaches are looking forward to a great season! Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you have. See you at the pool!

Thanks,

Katie Stamm
